The other 200 patients were randomised to dose - escalated external beam radiation therapy (DE-EBRT) and received an additional 32
Gy of external beam radiation to
achieve a total prostate dose of 78
Gy.
The Northern Japan Radiation Therapy Oncology Group reported that doses of 3
Gy or more per fraction were more effective at
achieving local control than conventionally fractionated radiation, and that survival may be improved with such doses in younger patients.
