Two years after the original Chromecast
HDMI streaming stick, Google decided it was ready last week to unveil the sequel with a redesigned and more capable 2nd - gen Chromecast as well as an entirely new product for streaming audio to old speakers called Chromecast Audio.
The main reason users might want
a HDMI streaming stick instead of a set - top box is for portability and traveling.

Plug everything — cable or satellite,
streaming boxes or
sticks, gaming consoles, DVD and Blu - ray players — into Caavo's eight
HDMI inputs and connect to your AVR and TV.
We'd suggest most users
stick to the lesser configurations and either
stream HD content, or connect an inexpensive standalone Blu - ray player to the aforementioned
HDMI port.
The Roku
Streaming Stick also includes a point - anywhere RF remote control, supports dual - band Wi - Fi, and comes in a more portable design that doesn't require an
HDMI cable.
Like other
streaming sticks, this one plugs into your TV's
HDMI port (there's a short extension cable in box if you need more room around the port).
From the looks of it, the mod houses an
HDMI port that can utilize a DirecTV
streaming stick which you can presumably use to
stream the service from your phone, then plug the same dongle into a TV.
The
Streaming Stick is a compact Roku player that plugs inconspicuously into an
HDMI port, offering a streamlined look that Roku suggests is suited to wall - mounted TVs.
However, there are no clumsy cables as the
Streaming Stick plugs directly into the
HDMI slot.
The Roku Express doesn't run quite as fast as the slightly more expensive Roku
Streaming Stick and attaches to your TV via a
HDMI cable rather than plug in directly to the slot like the
Stick model.

The new Amazon Fire TV
Stick comes in a thumb drive - like design and has an
HDMI out to deliver an advanced media
streaming experience.

HDMI Port, (If your TV is relatively new, most likely your cable box is using this same cable and port to connect to your TV's) and are used to

The Roku
Streaming Stick + is just long enough that it can't fit in some
HDMI slots due to TV cabinetry getting in the way.
The only other item we'd like to see Roku include with its
streaming sticks is a flexible
HDMI adapter.
We measured the
Streaming Stick + length at exactly 3.75 inches, so check your TV and consider picking up an
HDMI adapter like this if you think you might need one.
Similar to Google's Chromecast, it will hang from your TV via the attached
HDMI cable, but it will support
streaming 4K at 60 fps, something that the Fire TV
Stick doesn't do.
