There are serious miscalculations throughout The Lone Ranger, starting with the casting:
Hammer plays the
masked hero with the dim enthusiasm (or enthusiastic dimness) of Brendan Fraser at his most stilted; Depp's Tonto is an ethnically dubious repurposing of his popular Jack Sparrow character, more stoic but equally eccentric; and Helena Bonham Carter,
as a brothel madam with a lethal fake leg, does little but add to the cartoon grotesquerie.
While not necessarily retro
as such, Haijian's sleek synths call to mind Jan
Hammer's work for the exploits of Crockett and Tubbs in building a world where pastel - colored style
masks murderous depravity.
Reiko can best be described
as a more agile version of Shao Khan
as he adopts the same shoulder barge, briefly wears the same face
mask and even swings the same skull - crushing War
