An Apple developer has found a secret feature hidden from public use since iOS 8: a one -
handed keyboard mode.
In the video review, we have demoed the broken one -
handed keyboard mode, Microsoft Edge performance, and other start screen speed test.
Luckily, the one -
handed keyboard mode works well in portrait screen.

Still, it does have a few things going for it: The «fast delete» button lets you quickly scrap whole words at a time; there's a one -
handed mode that lets you crunch the keys over to one side of the screen; and, when your phone is in landscape
mode, it splits apart like an ergonomic
keyboard, making it feel a little more natural for your thumbs.
Cleverly, Apple has made this work on a system level, so if you don't put the
keyboard back to normal in a certain app, it'll stay in the one -
handed mode until you change it back.
We've already told you about the new customizable Control Center and the less obnoxious volume box, but here's another nifty one: Apple's default QuickType
keyboard is getting a dedicated one -
handed -
keyboard mode.
Third - party
keyboards like Microsoft's Word Flow have had a one -
handed mode for years.
The
keyboard in landscape
mode isn't quite the size of a real
keyboard, but it's close, and once you've got both
hands on the
keyboard you can really start picking up speed.

handed mode: When the
keyboard is onscreen, tap and hold the return key.
You'll be able to use the one -
handed keyboard feature in portrait
mode on 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhones.
Since we now will relaunch the
keyboard where you left it, we've decided to remove the left and right docked
modes from the one -
handed keyboard.
Apple's default
keyboard will be a little more useful in a pinch with iOS 11, thanks to the addition of a one -
handed mode.
Microsoft first released its Windows Phone
keyboard for the iPhone more than a year ago, with a unique one -
handed mode.
Google
Keyboard received a big update just a few weeks ago that added a one -
handed mode, quicker access to emoji, and a ton of customization options.
The
keyboard is showing some new options as well, including a way to choose its size, switching between right and left -
handed modes and more.
You can drag the
keyboard around and reposition it on the screen (a sort of one -
handed mode for larger phones) and Cortana facilitates dictated messages.
One -
hand UI acts much like the one -
handed Input
mode on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, moving the dialler pad and
keyboard to your preferred side of the screen.
iOS 11 brings a new one -
handed mode to the iPhone
keyboard.
Microsoft's Word Flow features Arc
mode, which makes one -
handed typing easy by putting the
keyboard in a semicircle to the bottom right of the screen.
Along w / those bigger points, you'll be able to do screen recording, a one -
handed keyboard option, FaceTime Live Photos, password autofill for apps, screenshot + markup, Wi - Fi password sharing, QR code support, NFC reader
mode, and much more.
The power button is too easy to accidentally trigger when in tablet
mode, the
keyboard is uncovered (but disabled) when the system is folded over, and the vents blow hot air over the user's
hands when the tablet is used in portrait
mode.
Yu thinks the phone is a «comfortable size,» however, pointing to the one -
handed mode that shrinks the
keyboard, the relatively compact design, and the curved back that makes it «more comfortable than the Galaxy Note.»
Also making an appearance is a new phone dialer as well as new options for the
keyboard such as: toggle the voice input button, select right -
handed or left -
handed modes, chose
keyboard size and so on.
