Hardline fans,
developer Visceral Games has announced a new batch of downloadable content is on its way to the game and it will be completely free.
While the beta is just a snippet of what we can expect when the game launches on October 21st later this year, and despite a talented
developer with the pedigree of Visceral, I have some reservations about Battlefield:
Hardline that make me wonder if this really warrants a full retail purchase.
Marketing for Battlefield:
Hardline, as well as many of the
developer interviews, have suggested that Visceral Games, coming straight off of their success with the Dead Space franchise, have fought to change this, and deliver a hard hitting dramedy, in the style of Justified, The Shield and other cop shows.
While Swedish
developer DICE has served as the exclusive
developer of the main Battlefield series for the last 10 years,
Hardline sees Dead Space
developers Visceral Games getting in on the mayhem.
Developer Visceral Games is best known for creating the Dead Space franchise, so it's only natural that it would include one or two references to its famous horror franchise in the upcoming Battlefield
Hardline.
The game justifies the
developer's decision to take an extra year in between titles; Battlefield 1 was released 2 years after
Hardline.

developer DICE has vowed to continue to support Battlefield 4 despite the announcement of Battlefield
Hardline, set for launch later this year.
And so Battlefield
Hardline speaks to our context, too (whether or not that's what the
developers would like).
After the poor reception and commercial performance of Dead Space 3, a game plagued with terrible microtransactions imposed by higher - ups from EA's main office, Visceral had been demoted from the publisher's group of elite
developers and drafted to develop the equally poorly - received Battlefield
Hardline.
