BMW's fresh interpretation of the BMW 2002 adopts the form of a compact sports coupe in the classical tradition of BMW
Hommage cars.
Although the Hommage vehicles BMW has produced for the Concorso d'Eleganza over the years don't normally make it to production, the company said: «
Our Hommage cars not only demonstrate how proud we are of our heritage, but also how important the past can be in determining the future.»
The Hommage cars make sure that old - fashioned excitement is alive and kicking.
Not exact matches
Outwardly similar to the yellow
Hommage concept, the
car's transformation is mainly graphical — and all the better for it.
Based loosely on the BMW M2, it's not dissimilar to some of the marque's «
Hommage»
cars, in this instance looking like a modern interpretation of the «batmobile» CSL and wearing the iconic BMW Motorsport colours.
Like some of those race
cars, the
Hommage has prominent wheel arches.
While the original concept was displayed in a striking yellow, echoing one of the road - going colour schemes of the period, the latest concept — dubbed the 3.0 CSL
Hommage R — wears white paintwork and BMW Motorsport stripes, echoing that IMSA
car of 1975.
Coincidentally, such a model will also cross the auction block with Russo and Steele during the Monterey
car week, a pristine example of the kind of heritage BMW wishes to evoke with the
Hommage.
And yet every time we think BMW has lost its way, we're presented with something like the 3.0 CSL
Hommage R, unveiled during the week of classic
car festivities in Monterey, California, and pictured here in the same livery as the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL racing
car it's sitting next to in pit lane.
Though the
Hommage won't make production, the
car on which it is based is often labelled, unofficially, as the first M
car.
To pay tribute, BMW says the 2015
Hommage takes influence from its current racing DTM
cars.
As a result, the
Hommage weighs a substantial 200 kg less than the original 3.0 CS (the
car the homologation special CSL was developed from).
