Fuel Cell car.
Hydrogen
fuel cell cars are the right answer to our current plight but why in the world is
Honda not pursuing extracting the hydrogen from water, when that technology is arleady available and viable?
This is a similar approach to the one
Honda took with the FCX Clarity hydrogen
fuel cell car, and BMW with the electric Mini E.
Though the story begins with hydrogen
fuel cell cars from
Honda, it quickly moves on to the plug - in
cars that will arrive years or decades sooner.
Honda took the same
car and used it as the test bed for its
fuel cell program, re-christening it the FCX.
Hydrogen
fuel cell technology allows the
Honda Clarity to run on hydrogen from domestic energy sources instead of gasoline, making it one of the cleanest

Honda has unveiled its FCX
fuel cell concept
car at the Tokyo show (see this previous article for more background info).
Technical Details
Honda President Takeo Fukui said about the upcoming hybrid: 1) The
car will have a global nameplate, 2) the engine will be based on the Civic's, but will use a newly designed motor and engine control unit, making it lighter and more compact, 3) it will be priced below the current Civic Hybrid, 4) it will take its design cues from the FCX Clarity hydrogen
fuel cell vehicle (pictured above) and 5) it will use nickel metal hydride batteries.It's probably a smart move to use the Civic's engine, as it is very efficient (for a gasoline engine) and not developing a new engine will help keep costs down.
First - quarter sales for
Honda's Clarity totaled 3,317
cars, but the company doesn't break out numbers for the separate EV, PHEV, and hydrogen
fuel cell variants that share the model name.
