At times the
land seems bountiful and kindly, and again harsh and unyielding, but it is always a challenge to
human strength and
ingenuity and people have learned to adapt their ways accordingly... agriculture continues to involve the relationship between humanity and the plant and the soil in which it grows....
There is another school of thought - that
human ingenuity and economic progress will get round the problem, as they have in the past, notably in the Green Revolution that transformed food - scarce countries such as India into
lands of abundance, with food exports contributing to the national coffers.
