One of the most accessible caves in the country, St. Herman's lies among the dense tropical forest on
the Hummingbird Highway, just 12 miles southeast of the capital city of Belmopan.
Just 12 miles south of Belmopan along
the Hummingbird Highway is the Blue Hole National Park with a sapphire - colored cenote and popular swimming hole.
This time I traveled back in a van that voyaged on
the Hummingbird Highway with the stunning Maya Mountains right out my window.
And from the southernmost district of Belize, the Southern Highway connects Toledo to Stann Creek and
the Hummingbird Highway connects Stann Creek to Belmopan, then you enter the Western Highway.
Some of Belize's most interesting place names include Baking Pot, Double Head Cabbage, Laughing Bird Caye, Cattle Landing, Monkey River, Gallon Jug, Bullet Tree Falls, Teakettle, More Tomorrow, Never Delay, Crooked Tree,
Hummingbird Highway, Raspaculo (scrape your bottom), Sal Si Puedes (come out if you can) and Labouring Creek
It's a beautiful drive to get here, down
the Hummingbird Highway, and it's useful to have car to get everyone around.
Major highways like the George Price Highway, Philip SW Goldson Highway,
Hummingbird Highway, and Southern highways are in much better condition, although they are unusually narrow and oftentimes lack shoulders.
Likewise, in the underground river of inland Blue Hole on
the Hummingbird Highway — a unique nature experience.
Hummingbird Guest House Lodge is located at mile 29 on
Hummingbird Highway, closer to Belmopan than Dangriga.
The park is located approximately 12 miles southeast of Belmopan and both entrances are located immediately adjacent to
the Hummingbird Highway.
The Western Highway continues west to San Ignacio, but you will turn left at Belmopan, and drive straight to a roundabout and then onto
the Hummingbird Highway.
Follow
the Hummingbird Highway east toward Dangriga for about an hour, and don't forget to enjoy the scenery!
Before you hit the roundabout and
Hummingbird Highway, you will pass a gas station on your left; this is your last gas station for an hour, so check your fuel!
Visitors to the park usually enter off
the Hummingbird Highway.
Belize's Cayo District is filled with lots of forested parks include St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park, located just off of
Hummingbird Highway.
There are several ways to get to the park: drive yourself, catch a taxi, or take a bus that travels on
the Hummingbird Highway.
Breakfast, Transfer to Placencia by road via
the hummingbird highway, the most scenic road in Belize with a stop - over at the Inland Blue Hole for a refreshing swim, Accommodations @ the Inn at Robert's Grove.
From there, the more adventurous may choose to rent a car and take the scenic three - hour drive that takes you west through the coastal plain and then winds southeast through the scenic hills of
the Hummingbird Highway before heading south to Placencia.

Today, this commuter hub is home to approximately 20,000 residents and sits at the crossroads of the Western Highway and
the Hummingbird Highway which leads to the southern coastal regions of Belize.
Transferring from the cayes by ferry we took the charmingly named and scenic
Hummingbird Highway from Belize City to the southern seaside town of Dangriga, the country's cultural capital with its Garifuna drumming centre and on to lovely Hopkins fishing village, now home to some upmarket hotels but still with the quaint, simple style that defines the area.
The cockscomb Basin Wildlife sanctuary is just off
the Hummingbird Highway, one of Belize's best places to see jaguars as well as some 250 species orchids and 300 species of birds.
A man was seriously injured after the truck he was in overturned on
the Hummingbird Highway.
Located at the end of
the Hummingbird Highway, Dangriga is the capital of Belize's Stann Creek District and is home to the Garifuna, a cultural and ethnic group who are descendants of shipwrecked slaves and native Caribs.
Herman's Cave is located about 500 meters from
the Hummingbird Highway.
The journey takes approximately 2 1/2 hours from Belize City — take the Western highway out of Belize City, turn left into
the Hummingbird Highway (follow sign to Belmopan and drive past Belmopan), then turn right onto the Southern Highway (follow sign to Punta Gorda).
While you are traveling through
Hummingbird Highway you will enjoy the hills view and birds of many types and colors.
Off
the Hummingbird Highway, the Caves Branch River is dotted with cenotes (sinkholes) and grottoes.

the Hummingbird Highway in taxis, buses and open - backed trucks.
The best way to reach the park is by driving yourself, coming in a taxi, or taking any bus that travels on
the Hummingbird Highway.
Blue Hole National Park is located 12 miles southeast of Belmopan on the right side of
the Hummingbird Highway.
A few roads, such as the newly completed
Hummingbird Highway, and resurfaced sections of the Western Highway are very good indeed, among the best in all of Central America and the equal of any rural road in the U.S. or Canada.

the Hummingbird Highway on a road only accessible by 4 × 4.
Roads: Belize has four major highways, the Northern Highway connecting Belize City with Chetumal on the Mexican Border, the Western Highway connecting Belize City with Belmopan and continuing to the border with Guatemala, the Southern Highway linking the Stann Creek and Toledo Districts and
the Hummingbird Highway.
In 1991 Belize had about 500 kilometers of paved highway extending from the Mexican and Guatemalan borders to Belize City, including the new
Hummingbird Highway linking Belmopan with Dangriga (see fig. 14).
Since
the Hummingbird Highway was built, it has been a favourite swimming spot, with refreshing cold water.
The site's elevation ranges from about 200 feet above sea level by
the Hummingbird Highway, to over 650 fed in the hilly interior.
Within 20 minutes you are turning west onto the paved
Hummingbird Highway, which is considered to be the most scenic drive in all of Belize.
Corporate sponsor: In the 1980s, the Hershey Corporation partnered with Belize's Ministry of Agriculture to boost the country's cacao production, setting up a large cacao farm along the Toledo District's
Hummingbird Highway in southern Belize.
Turn right or west on the Western Highway and take it past the Coastal Highway until you reach
the Hummingbird Highway which goes through the outskirts of the capital, Belmopan (40 minutes, 32 miles, 51.5 km).
