Originally, the
film was going to be a sequel with director Rupert Sanders returning but some real - life drama got in the way and they decided to focus on Chris Hemsworth's

And I got to admit, Snow White and the
Huntsman was better than I expected but that's only because it was my fill - in movie (went to see two
films and there was this 2,5 hour gap between them that I needed to fill) and I didn't expect anything.

Now comes The
Huntsman: Winter's War, another part two of a
film franchise that fits more than comfortably into the completely unnecessary category than one which was overwhelming demanded.
Based on a popular graphic novel by Marasume Shirow and directed by Rupert Sanders («Snow White and the
Huntsman»), Ghost in the Shell is a visually stunning experience with a fine core performance by Scarlett Johansson («Captain America: Civil War»), but it borrows so much of other, mostly better science fiction

Huntsman: Winter's War is not the disaster that some people thought it would be, but it's not a recommendable
film either.
In what's being marketed as a prequel to the first
film, The
Huntsman is oddly both a prequel and a sequel to Snow White, yet does not require anyone to have seen that movie.
At one point, I remember thinking that both Oz and Snow White and the
Huntsman looked like they had some promise but both ended up being some of the worst
films that I'd seen all year.
Snow White and The
Huntsman was a 2012
film that did a different spin on the classic tale.
An impressive cast — including Ian McShane (Snow White and the
Huntsman) and Eddie Marsan (I, Anna)-- evidently see the humour of the
film's approach, with none as delightfully comedic as Ewan McGregor (The Impossible).
In this time of dark fantasy
films («Snow White and the
Huntsman,» «Prometheus «-RRB-, violent war dramas («For Greater Glory «-RRB- and bland adult comedies («What to Expect When You're Expecting,» «Lola Versus «-RRB-, it's refreshing to see a fun, colorful movie the whole family can enjoy together.
According to the official logline for the
film, The
Huntsman will reveal how the
Huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) and the Evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) first met, before the events of Snow White and the
Huntsman.
Plans for a proper sequel were reportedly axed in the aftermath of Kristen Stewart's scandalous affair with director Rupert Sanders, so Universal forged ahead with a
Huntsman - centric
film instead, relegating Snow White to a mere footnote.
Though Charlize Theron delivers a great performance as the Evil Queen, playing the iconic villain as a raging psychopath, she goes missing for large portions of the
film, while Chris Hemsworth's
Huntsman isn't given enough to do to warrant his top billing.
Not the most likely or inspiring choice for the job, Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) takes the helm of this $ 160 million production with a script attributed to Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the
film adaptation of Rent) and Disney DTV veteran Evan Spiliotopoulos (whose more recent credits include the maligned not - quite - tentpoles Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson and The
Huntsman: Winter's War).
