Most of us will continue to get our elite status from the IHG Rewards Club credit card and be content with the benefits of
IHG Platinum status.
One downfall of
the IHG Platinum status is that it is not eligible for benefits at InterContinental hotels since they have their own loyalty program.
I used my IHG credit card to get
the IHG Platinum status in 2012 and used it to get Hyatt to Diamond Trial me in Feb 2013.
The benefit that we're concerned with right is
the IHG Platinum status that you're given with this card.
For example,
IHG Platinum status will often earn you Hilton Honors Diamond status.
IHG Platinum status might be the easiest mid-tier status to earn and because of that I believe it's been a little devalued and doesn't offer a lot.
The IHG credit card provides
IHG platinum status, 10 percent of your redeemed points back (up 100,000 annually), as well as an annual award night you can use at virtually any IHG property around the world, including Intercontinental Hotels in expensive cities such as New York, London or Paris.
Not exact matches
Among other things,
Platinum Elite
Status membership entitles users to complimentary room upgrades (subject to availability), and a 50 % bonus to base points (the ones received from simply staying at
IHG properties, not the credit card rewards points).
All
IHG ® Rewards Club Select cardmembers, in good standing, are automatically given
Platinum Elite
Status.
These include annual free nights (valued at $ 256), a Global Entry or TSA Precheck credit every four years (valued at $ 100) and automatic
Platinum Elite
status in the
IHG Rewards Club.
However, if you care about elite
status with
IHG, know that the
IHG ® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card gives you automatic
Platinum Elite
status, with no prerequisite spending requirements.
With the
IHG Rewards Club Select Card, users automatically get upgraded to
Platinum Elite
Status which offers a 50 % bonus on all point earnings.
Bottom Line: The
IHG ® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is worth getting for those who can utilize its high rewards rate for
IHG purchases, free anniversary nights and some of perks that come with having
Platinum Elite
status.

IHG Rewards Club.
Platinum Elite
status gets you 50 % more point earnings only on points earned by being a
IHG Rewards Club member - not to points earned by using the

Bottom Line:
Platinum Elite
status, redemption rebates, and no annual fee the first year are all part of the package for getting the Chase
IHG ® Rewards Club Select Credit Card!
Don't forget to add in the value of getting 10 % points back when redeeming for an
IHG room, however, and consider your
Platinum Elite
status benefit.
HHonors Gold and Diamond, Marriott Gold and
Platinum, SPG
Platinum and
IHG Platinum Elite members may all apply for a Diamond
status trial with Hyatt.
I also love that the
IHG Rewards Club card comes with a 10 % rebate on all points redemptions and
Platinum IHG status.
The
IHG Rewards Club card also comes with
Platinum status, 10 % rebate on all reward redemptions, no foreign transaction fees, and you earn 2x points per $ 1 on gas, groceries, and restaurants.
Platinum status is reached after 50 nights or 60,000 Elite Qualifying Points, or automatically with the
IHG Rewards MasterCard.
For an extra $ 60 per year, cardholders earn double the rate on
IHG hotel purchases, a free anniversary night at select properties and
Platinum Elite
status.
The
IHG Rewards MasterCard offers
Platinum status in the
IHG Rewards Program or the Citibank Hilton Reserve card gives you Gold
status in the Hilton Honors program, offering you great benefits for the annual fee.
The Silver
Status isn't quite as good as the
Platinum Status offered by the
IHG card but it's still a decent perk.
Platinum status with
IHG isn't the best hotel elite
status out there, but it's better than nothing.
As you can see, nothing too sexy, but I have received room upgrades on all my
IHG hotel stays with
Platinum status.
Platinum status with the
IHG card also allowed me to get a
status match trial a couple of years ago with Hyatt.
The
IHG card also gives its card members instant
Platinum status with
IHG.
Another great benefit of the Chase
IHG Rewards Club Select card is that you get automatic
Platinum Elite
status through
IHG.
There was no recognition of the
IHG Rewards Club
Platinum status and there are no available room upgrades or welcome amenities.
Here there's no need to be targeted — you just have to have some
IHG points in your account and have
Platinum status or higher.
If you missed out on that opportunity and you have
Platinum or higher
IHG Rewards
status it would appear that
IHG has thrown you a lifeline.....
Staff recognized my
IHG Rewards Club
Platinum status, but didn't offer a room upgrade.
The front desk had our reservation ready, my
IHG Rewards
Platinum Elite
status was acknowledged and we even received a room upgrade — something that rarely happened in many years of regular visits!
The
IHG card also provides you with
Platinum status so that could potentially help you get an upgrade but in my experience this upgrade usually just means a standard room with a bit more space or perhaps a corner room.

In the meantime, the
IHG Rewards Club Select credit card comes with
Platinum status.
For example, would it be sufficient for an
IHG Dining Rewards member to qualify at the gold level in order to maintain
platinum status?
IHG will be introducing a new membership level (Yet to be named) in July, offering a range of benefits including 100 % bonus points and option to choose 25,000 points or ability to gift
platinum status to friend / family member every year you maintain the level.
I recommend the
IHG Rewards MasterCard as a first hotel rewards club due to the great perks that come with it: You get instant
Platinum elite
status for additional perks during your stays and for the annual fee of $ 49 you get one free night every year you renew your card — a bargain that has gotten me free stays at fantastic (and expensive!)
All
IHG Business Rewards bookings will also count towards achieving
IHG Rewards Club Gold or
Platinum tier
status, when the same member books and stays at an
IHG hotel.
