The removal of the current
IHG Rewards card from the Chase website is more than enough evidence that
change is coming so, if you want the current version of the
IHG Rewards card (which isn't subject to Chase's 5/24 rule), apply as soon as you can because your chances to do so are disappearing quickly.
While the value of
IHG points might be going down due to these
changes, this also means that the
IHG Rewards Credit Card (my top hotel credit card) is now worth even more.

A few months back, we mentioned that InterContinental Hotels Group was planning to bring some
changes to its
IHG Rewards Club this summer, and now those
changes have taken effect — including a new top elite level.
On May 1, 2018, we're
changing the Anniversary Free Night benefit associated with your
IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card.
It made the same
change to the
IHG Rewards Club Select credit card, which also charged cardholders a single APR of 15.24 percent.
At least we know one membership perk won't
change when Kimpton's Karma
Rewards is absorbed by
IHG Rewards Club: All members will continue to receive complimentary wireless internet.
Priority Club has
changed its name to
IHG Rewards Club.
So this represents a positive
change, however earning Platinum status through the
IHG Rewards Club Visa remains the easiest way to reach what will soon become, more or less, mid-tier status in the program.

changes for 2018: Almost 500 hotels will cost 5,000 - 10,000 points more than last year.
