The Conservative Party is torn between a desire to return to past national certainties (now impossible) and a move towards an outdated
idea of a United States of Europe, while economic forces
push towards a Europe of regions, where what is really important is whether the Welsh can make a better bid for a Japanese
factory than the Catalans.
