Infant mental health researchers have
identified another subgroup of children with the onset of psychopathology (with or without environmental triggers), highlighting an early predisposition to partial or full psychiatric disorders such as disruptive behavior or anxiety disorders.

of a public health model for the delivery
of parenting support with parents
of younger
children.9, 11,40 Various epidemiological surveys show that most parents concerned about their
children's behaviour or adjustment do not receive professional assistance for these problems, and when they do, they typically consult family doctors or teachers who rarely have specialized training in parent consultation skills.10 Most
of the family - based programmes targeting adolescents are only available to selective subpopulations
of adolescents (those who have
identified risk factors) and / or indicated
subgroups of youth (those who already possess negative symptoms or detectable problems).
For example, longitudinal prospective studies
of children of mothers with schizophrenia have consistently
identified a
subgroup who present a stable pattern
of aggressive and / or antisocial behavior from a young age, 36,37 and studies
of children with depression
identify a
subgroup with conduct disorder.38 Among persons who develop a major mental disorder, substance abuse in childhood or adolescence is more strongly associated with violent crime in adulthood than substance abuse in adulthood, 39 and individuals who will develop a major mental disorder may be more sensitive to the effects
of alcohol than others.40 These findings suggest that symptoms (eg, substance abuse) that we and others are labeling as distinct disorders, may in fact be a part
of or at least related to the primary disorder.
Using a nationally representative sample
of UK
children born in 2000 — 2001 (6458 boys and 6340 girls), the current study (a)
identified subgroups of CP pathways separately for boys and girls from ages 3 to 11 and (b) examined early precursors (pregnancy to 9 months)
of these trajectories.

of ego control were
