If dried chillies are used, they could be soaked in advance to make their texture softer.

All one can find is a Masala paste, a mixture of garlic, ginger and
chillies, I have a lot of other spices and would prefer doing my own
dry mix, it is also easy to find spices
if and when I need.
If I was serving this only to adults, I'd add a teaspoon each of crushed Sichuan peppercorns (pulverise them in a mortar and pestle) and
dried chilli flakes to the marinade in a homage to my beloved Xinjiang Lamb Skewers.
I also season it with
dried basil but
if you have fresh that works too and some
chilli flakes but powder or cayenne pepper will have a similar effect.
I have added 1/2 a teaspoon of crushed
dried chillies to my soup,
if you are tougher then me then by all means double or even triple the amount of
chillies.
Next add in the carrots, vegetable stock, fresh coriander stalks and the
dried chillies if you are using them.

if you're going to be cooking that evening.
I did find it a little bland following their seasoning guide lines, I added more than in the recipe and some heat too with some
dried chilli, or fresh
if i have it.
If your
chilli starts to
dry out, add some of the reserved tomato juice, but remember that it won't reduce as much in the microwave as it would on the hob.
If it is not available, you can replace it with regular
dry red
chilli (or 1/2 teaspoon red
chilli powder).
A little sprinkle of fresh or
dried chilli on top is also amazing
if you like things spicy!
