Perusing the index of Origins, the weekly publication of representative documents and speeches compiled by Catholic News Service, our imaginary historian will note, for example, the following initiatives undertaken at the national, diocesan and parish levels in 1994 - 95: providing
alternatives to abortion; staffing adoption agencies; conducting adult education courses; addressing African American Catholics» pastoral needs; funding programs to prevent alcohol abuse;
implementing a new policy on altar servers and guidelines for the Anointing of the Sick; lobbying for arms control; eliminating asbestos in public housing; supporting the activities of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (227 strong); challenging atheism in American society; establishing base communities (also known as small faith communities); providing aid to war victims in Bosnia; conducting Catholic research in bioethics; publicizing the new Catechism of the Catholic Church; battling child abuse; strengthening the relationship between church and labor unions; and deepening the structures and expressions of collegiality in the
local and diocesan church.
States are free to choose whether to
implement the cessation clause, but are encouraged to put in place certain procedures to transition refugees to
alternative statuses such as
local integration programmes.
The budget also made attempts to address the growing teacher shortage by
implementing a new
Local Alternative Teacher Preparation Program, and by granting districts the ability to hire adjunct Career and Technical Education faculty.
Each United States district court shall devise and
implement its own
alternative dispute resolution program, by
local rule adopted under section 2071 (a), to encourage and promote the use of
alternative dispute resolution in its district.
Pathway has differentiated itself through its stated mission of being an
alternative to a «corporate» exit strategy, by focusing on the unique needs of each practice and truly partnering with the
local team to
implement their vision and work with their values.
In particular, its main objectives were: to identify possible adaptation strategies, compare them using multiple criteria and select the most sustainable
alternatives; to identify risk communication methods and materials, select appropriate ones, tailor them to the
local contexts, and
implement them; to develop and apply indicators to monitor the performance of the overall project.
Some of his suggestions for
local planning initiatives include: Preserve wetlands by passing
local wetlands protection laws; maintain biodiversity in the Hudson Valley by protecting sensitive lands through land acquisition; refrain from building in flood plains; require all new building to be «green» and sustainable and, ideally, change
local building codes to require LEED certification; switch all public and government buildings to energy suppliers that provide wind and solar options as
alternatives;
implement smart growth communities by keeping construction in areas that are already developed thus preserving green corridors; and support cap - and - trade laws to decrease CO2 levels.
To be eligible for membership, candidate cities must have no more than 50,000 residents and must pledge to work towards
implementing a range of programs from the promotion of organic agriculture, the banning of genetically modified foods and organisms, urban revitalization and historic preservation,
alternative energy systems, preservation of
local tradition and heritage, signage and light regulations, to building awareness of the
local citizenry for the Slow City goals.
Informed by these studies, we developed and
implemented a pilot parent - child music program in a
local alternative school providing daycare and parental support for adolescent parents and their children.
