in ebook circulation, and 74 percent of the ebook patrons in LJ's Patron Profiles report say they want even more ebooks in the library.
Ian shared a slew of statistics related to eBooks; public libraries anticipate a 36 % increase
in eBook circulation and while only 7 % of public libraries circulate preloaded eReading devices, 24 % are considering it.
Ebooks have been grabbing headlines throughout publishing, and librarians nationwide report mega-increases
in ebook circulations and requests.

Right now
in the USA there is said to be over 21 million e-readers
in circulation and many libraries are seeing a boom period
in ebook borrowing.
This growth has resulted
in an era when 95 % of public libraries offer
ebook checkouts, and 66 % of school libraries offer digital
circulation.
Our friends at The Digital Reader have responded to an OverDrive Press Release citing record library
eBook and eAudiobook
circulation in 2015, with the former up 19 % over 2014 (to 125 million) and the latter up 36 % (to 43 million).
He notes that there is only 40,000
eBook titles currently
in circulation and 80 % of new books that come out are digitized.

With
ebooks and license agreements, they can essentially opt not do business with libraries (by not allowing
circulation as a permitted activity under the license offered) or charge libraries at differential (much higher) rates, as well as manipulating availability (for example, no bestsellers
in the library till a year after consumer release).
The major concern
in these discussions has always seemed to be the ease with which
ebooks can be pirated, but libraries have been able to show the thought - provoking data on how
circulations can actually increase sales.
But
in that time,
ebook circulation has increased fivefold, and media
circulation has climbed from just over 29 % to nearly 34 %.
Literary fiction is thriving, now accounting for 22 % of print
circulation on average — up from only 13 %
in 2011 — and 16 % of
ebook circulation.
In addition to the data already available, such as holds, titles,
circulation, and traffic data, the new datasets will have an increased focus on web traffic intelligence, such as time spent searching, browsing, and socializing about
ebooks and other media.

in the year, HarperCollins had created a brouhaha
in the library world by changing the acquisition terms of its
ebooks for libraries from licensing to 26
circulations before an
ebook would have to be purchased again.
Circulation of
ebooks nearly doubled
in graduate and professional libraries — from an average of 16,200 to 35,881 between the school year ending
in 2010 to the year ending
in 2011.
OverDrive (www.overdrive.com), the leading
eBook and audiobook platform for libraries and schools, announced today that
circulation of
eBooks, audiobooks and other digital media increased 33 %
in 2014 to 137 million checkouts, while web traffic and discoverability similarly increased, especially on mobile devices.

ebook circulation grow by 25 percent this fiscal year, compared with 108 percent growth
in 2011, 67 percent
in 2012, and 39 percent
in 2013.
In 2010, almost 60 percent of respondents cited unawareness as a barrier to increased
