the Instructional Change Study, this project is working in a number of schools across the country, trying, in a sense, to «scale up» the inquiry approach, but to ensure that the whole school is engaged in the effort.

study, Russell Pate and Dr. Jennifer O'Neil of the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina said the
study showed the «need to learn ways in which the doses of physical activity provided during youth sports and activity programs can be most effectively increased by modifying the manner in which the practices and contests are conducted... [such as] by
changes in
instructional practices that produce greater emphasis on keeping youth active while they learn individual skills and team strategies.»

studies we reviewed were quite modest and easily implemented:
The
study, «A Delicate Balance: District Policies and Classroom Practice,» found a gap between how central - office administrators envisioned
instructional change, and how teachers and school leaders thought about their directives.
Our
studies use variation from one year to the next in snow or the number of
instructional days cancelled due to bad weather to explain
changes in each school's test scores over time.
Figure 1 compares the magnitude of the effect of
instructional days on standardized math scores to estimates drawn from other high - quality
studies of the impact of
changing class size, teacher quality, and retaining students in grade.
The
study, which includes 150 secondary school teachers in twenty - eight states, is measuring «the impact of these
instructional changes, such as more frequent assessment and types of classroom discourse, on student performance in algebra.»
In five of these 11
studies,
changes in teachers» «
instructional practices» were linked to their use of particular curriculum materials (Adey, 1997; Balfanz et al., 2006; Copeland & Gray, 2002; Gersten & Kelly, 1992; Gillis et al., 1991).
The
studies in this section suggest that
instructional change in language arts does occur with reform, but that it is mediated by teachers» beliefs, knowledge, and their sense of accountability pressure.
In this
study, support provided within the classroom was found to be linked to
changes in teachers» classroom instruction and the adoption of new
instructional materials.
And forget about the massive
changes in
instructional schedules as schools have been forced to reduce «specials» like art, music, PE and academic subjects like social
studies to make room for the Common Core mandated subjects.
Findings from these
studies suggested that principals seek out teacher leaders» input around
instructional issues and that these efforts have a positive impact on
changes in school - wide instruction.
Improving teaching methods and fully coordinating our
instructional program requires that the full faculty be brought together on a regular and consistent basis for
study and planning In the past, teachers and administrators have tried to coordinate our program of
study and make
instructional changes during after school meetings, and over the summer without the participation of the entire faculty.
«The teachers in our
study confirmed what we at Teach Plus have learned from previous research and from speaking with thousands of teachers over the past five years: that alignment between assessments and curriculum, access to highly valued activities, and the autonomy to choose what's right for students all contribute to how teachers perceive the value of activities they use to prepare their students for tests, and are all factors that can be
changed to reduce wasted time and increase valued
instructional time.»
The same interference is at play with their similar claim that «Teachers in the five
study states have made major
changes [emphasis in the original] in their lesson plans and
instructional materials to meet the CCSS» (p. 3).

Then, a team of CGCS

studying with some of the best math education researchers around.

Change, features the Wilkinson County School District in Irwinton, GA and examines how leaders developed, promoted, and supported a district - wide culture of
instructional innovation that laid the groundwork for steady gains in 8th grade math achievement for African - American males and economically disadvantaged students.
But even states» college - and career - readiness standards are documents that must be
studied and internalized if they are to guide teachers to make meaningful
instructional change.

The purpose of this
study was to examine the impact of both functional behavior assessment - based interventions and targeted classroom interventions for reducing problem behaviors of children with emotional / behavioral disorders (EBD) in special education classrooms.Specifically, this
study was interested in how interventions based on
changes in classroom routines and
instructional behaviors compared with interventions based on functional behavior assessment.Results demonstrated the effectiveness of incorporating effective classroom practices in reducing problem behaviors in special education classrooms for students with EBD.
