Ionic looks like a smartwatch, and is reviewed by many publications as such, but it barely qualifies.
Fitbit's UI for
the Ionic looks clean and fairly easy to get around, and while the question still remains as to whether or not the company can build up the app store into something worthy of attention, there are already applications for Starbucks, Pandora, and Strava.
If you want to keep your shiny new Fitbit
Ionic looking both shiny and new for a bit longer, these screen protectors will help prevent scuffs and scratches and they're touchscreen compatible so won't affect your watch's functionality.
The 38.59 mm
Ionic looks much bigger than the 38 mm Apple Watch, thanks to its aluminum case that juts out from the top and bottom of the display.

Not exact matches
The new $ 200 Fitbit Versa
looks a lot more like an Apple Watch, with a brighter, curvier design than the chunky, science fiction inspired $ 300
Ionic model released last year.
The producers of

I say
ionic because my whole reason for going very low carb was to: clear my acne, maintain or even lose a pound or two, live longer,

Ionic is a surprisingly solid choice, even with its uninspiring
looks.
The company, it seemed, had no interest in the hardware side of things — that much seemed clear with one
look at the
Ionic.
The Fitbit
Ionic smartwatch was hard - angled and severe
looking.
Each of the above options has its own strengths, but if you're
looking for something long - lasting with well - rounded fitness - tracking features, the
Ionic is a good option.
But the Vivoactive 3's transflective «memory - in - pixel» screen
looks more like a color e-Ink display and is less impressive than the
Ionic's LCD panel.
Where the Fitbit
Ionic fell flat on its face from a design perspective, the Versa attempts to rectify with a more staid and unassuming
look.
The Fitbit Versa
looks nothing like the
Ionic, and that's great.
While we haven't yet tested all these functions on the Versa, the
look and feel of the interface is close to
Ionic, so we have a good idea of what the experience will be like.
Say goodbye to the angular, science - fiction
look found on the
Ionic and the equally gauche Fitbit Blaze, and say hello to the Versa's aluminum construction, black - on - black color scheme, and smoothed corners that scream «my first smartwatch» more than anything.
The Versa is cheaper and better
looking than the
Ionic, and it comes with some much needed software improvements.
The Versa models that we've seen are production samples and while the design shown here is what the final product will
look like, there will be a Fitbit logo on the front - as there is on
Ionic.
If you want something a little bit more fitness - focused than some of the other options, Fitbit's
Ionic smartwatch might just be what you're
looking for.
Unfortunately the
Ionic is unable to pair with other heart rate sensors, so those
looking for more accurate heart rate tracking are out of luck.
The
Ionic is most useful to Fitbit enthusiasts who want to wear a watch, not those
looking for an Apple Watch alternative.
The new Fitbit Versa smartwatch is smarter, more affordable, and much better
looking than the Fitbit
Ionic.
Ionic's
look doesn't reflect how it feels, though.
If you don't care about smartwatch features and are
looking for a high - end Fitbit device, buy the
Ionic.
The
Ionic also has interchangeable straps, a unibody made from aerospace aluminium for a premium
look and improved heart rate tracking over other Fitbit devices.
Speaking of straps, the
Ionic's are interchangeable, making it easy to swap out a sport strap for a leather or classic one if you want it to
look a little classier.
The
Ionic successfully bridges the gap between fitness tracker and smartwatch though so if you're
looking for a device that fulfils both these categories, this might be the one for you.
It
looks modern with rounded square display and is mentioned to be lighter than the
Ionic.
When it comes to smartwatches, how a device
looks to the user tends to be very divisive, and that applies to the
Ionic.
At least with the dark silver and black band version, the most you can criticize about the
Ionic's is how generic it
looks.
Even compared to last year's Blaze the
Ionic fits better, is more comfortable,
looks nicer, has more features, higher battery life, and it has that dazzling display.
Despite its silly design name, the Versa is a much more handsome and friendly -
looking watch than many of the firm's previous devices, especially the
Ionic, which we have to admit we weren't the biggest fans of.
It
looks like Fitbit is trying to market this new smartwatch as its own thing, ditching the previous lines of Blaze and
Ionic.
If functionality is as important for you as
looks, then you can also choose from a range of watch faces that deliver stats right on the
Ionic's home screen.
Fitbit has decided to bring a few smaller smartwatch features to a fitness tracker, so you've got the added benefits of things like Fitbit Pay, but they're mostly useful in an exercise capacity — so if you're
looking for a fitness watch that goes the extra mile in terms of features, the
Ionic could be for you.
I personally don't have a problem with the
Ionic's physical appearance, but this new watch does
look a lot sleeker and more polished.
This could be especially aggravating if you want to check the time or your progress mid-workout, but wherever you are, having to repeatedly flap your arm around to
look at your watch isn't ideal, so we'd like to see this improved for the Fitbit
Ionic 2.
It'll be competing with the Fitbit
Ionic which is the same price point, but arguably doesn't
look as nice.
Shrink them down — and in the process ideally shrink the whole watch down — and the Fitbit
Ionic 2 could have a much sleeker, higher - end
look.
