In this exhibition at New York Gallery Osmos Address, titled «Precious Not Precious,» the artist presents collaged textile cushions, Islamic prayer rugs and heirloom textiles alongside her personal garments, creating a space of her own orientation and defying what she calls a «manufactured identity.»

Construed as a triptych, the first two panels acknowledge the artists» Pakistani roots in comprising stylised paintings of Islamic prayer rugs from the Baluchistan region of Pakistan and Azerbaijan in Northwest Iran.

The patterning that composes each image is sourced from both Eastern and Western aesthetic traditions: Paleolithic and Neo-Paleolithic fetish objects, West African ceremonial masks, Greek Icon painting, Italian and Northern Renaissance altarpieces, Jewish ceremonial textiles such as Tallit and Torah arks, Islamic prayer rugs, alchemical diagrams and geometric references to mathematical equations.
