Unlike many other Pictures - affiliated artists who use photography, James Welling established a deep and remarkably sincere commitment to his primary medium even as he undertook an extensive investigation of its long - standing intermediary role in other artistic practices: Abstract and representational painting and sculpture along with film, architecture, and, more recently, dance have all crucially informed the artist's oeuvre.

In 2015, the museum will shake things up with a thoughtful solo exhibition by Los Angeles - based conceptual photographer James Welling, whose ongoing Wyeth series takes inspiration from and pays homage to the 20th - century American artist.

She notes James Welling, the pioneering photographer known for working with multiple photographic mediums, as a major influence on her work.

This exhibition brings together more than 60 works of art donated by artists to the museum, including pieces by photographer Catherine Opie, light and space master Larry Bell, multimedia artist Analia Saban, photographer James Welling and conceptualist Mario Ybarra Jr..
