In this case, we see Alfred Hitchcock's original take on this kidnapping and espionage story — the color remake with
James Stewart and Doris Day is
better known and possibly also
better in many ways, but this one has the distinct advantage of Peter Lorre
as one of the bad
guys.
In between, there's a stupid thing involving a code delivered by an autistic
guy (Mercury Rising) that smells a little like first - time screenwriter (s)- itis,
as well as a gaggle of story twists that are completely uninteresting except that they're played out by Pearce, Peter Stormare, Lennie
James, and Vincent Regan.
James Frecheville is remarkable
as J and the film really takes advantage of the fact that Frecheville is the unknown actor amid many of Australia's finest and most
