Jesus pointed out that if a man has an ox or an ass that falls into a pit, he
goes to great
trouble to rescue the animal.
The «problem» you highlight is shallow because no one ever assumes that their
troubles will
go away if they stop believing — any more than they should expect their problems
to magically vanish if they give in and start praising
Jesus.
Jesus, on the night of His arrest,

to pray, «And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began
to be very distressed and

to the people in Ephesus, for he was clean of the blood of all the people there, for he preached the full gospel

to admonish them
to be diligent in their oversight of the Ephesian church and
to feed the church of God there, which Christ purchased with his own blood.
Why should it be necessary for
Jesus, as soon as he gets
to Jerusalem,
to go to the Temple Mount and start
trouble?
Though the traditional reading is what the text seems
to say on the surface, the revelation we have received in
Jesus Christ challenges us
to look beneath the surface of these deep and
troubled waters
to discern something else
going on in the flood event than a violent God foolishly seeking the near - extermination of everything that breathes on earth.
But can you imagine a parent bringing a child
to Jesus with the words: «I want my boy
to go with you, because you will keep him out of
trouble»?
While other disciples tried
to prevent
Jesus from
going to Judea fearing
trouble from the Jews, Thomas told them, «let us
go that we may die with him.»
