The early critical favourite, however, is Isaac Julien's two films, one a collaboration with the choregrapher Javier de Frutos, which almost landed him in the courts when the two partners fought over the correct form of credit.

Isaac Julien's Long Road to Mazatlán (1999), a video collaboration with the choreographer Javier de Frutos, is a stunning visualization of the yearning of two cowboys «dancing» around their mutual attraction and the stigma that often comes along with it.

Previous experience of Isaac Julien in the dance include collaborations with renowned British choreographer Russell Maliphant, giving rise to important multimedia performance with the triptych of films JulienTrue North, FantômeAfriquee Small Boats; with the Venezuelan dancer and choreographer Javier de Frutos with which he created Thelong Road to Mazatla; in the end produced Threecon choreographers Bebe Miller and Ralph Lemon and the British actress Cleo Sylvestre.
