The
settings menu,
keyboard and default apps are just a few pixels away from being the same as before, which in this case is actually just fine considering that they were already very flat and modern after their previous updates.
Things like the
settings menu being basically unusable can be ignored for this first effort, but the
keyboard itself isn't really going to change because it's the same
keyboard on every other platform Minuum supports.
The default TouchPal
keyboard is unfortunately not an impressive performer, and most system applications and the
Settings menu have seen complete re-designs.
Buried within the
settings menu, Huawei has hidden a special one - handed UI that takes the dialler and
keyboard to the left or right of the massive screen (it's up to you which side and this can be easily changed on the fly).
Significant changes seen so far in the OS include changes and improvements in the Notification
menu, the status bar, the navigation bar, Quick
Settings, App badges, System UI customization options, physical
keyboard support, Autofill API, background processes, PIP support and much more.
On the Samsung side of the fence, meanwhile, users getting the update can expect new shortcut controls, changes to how edge lighting is handled, and some UI tweaks, along with changes to the
settings menu, lockscreen, always on display functionality, and Samsung's first - party
keyboard.
It's not only sporting the bolder - colored, simpler, more cohesive Material Design, but every other part — from the
keyboard to the
Settings menu — feels like Android has finally grown up.
You can optionally
set the stock
keyboard to slide over to one side in this
menu as well.
I've never had to charge this
keyboard or
set it up through a
menu, since both power and data flow through the Smart Connector.
Opening it provides access to several different apps including the crucial Easy
Settings menu that can be used to control features like
keyboard backlighting, power management, and more.
You can also find its
settings under Language and
keyboard in your system
settings menu.
The South Korean company has also added the ability to use a high - contrast
keyboard, as well as a compressed
settings menu for the
keyboard.
To access these options, hold down the Shift key on your
