doing what they love, they've created a loyal customer base that was primed and ready to support their
Kickstarter project.
While recent changes to securities law permit companies to raise money from small investors through
Kickstarter - style
projects, the SEC noted the «DAO»
project did not comply with formalities for
doing so, such as registering as a broker - dealer or registering the website with regulators.

This is one of the major problems facing
Kickstarter, which doesn't actually require the
project to deliver anything.
I think this book's appreciation largely depends on the audience's experience listening to the Self Publishing Podcast, whether or not they have read The Dream Engine, whether or not they are looking to
do a
Kickstarter campaign any time soon, and whether or not they plan to utilize all the free (or paid) tools that expand upon this recounting of the Fiction Unboxed
project.
Even if you can't currently tell, I have a whole lot of writing to get
done, and with my upcoming
Kickstarter, I want to use social media to: a) get the word out about my
projects, and b) talk to my readers and engage with them, find out what makes them tick, and share cool stuff with them (because that's what I want from my favorite writers).
The answer isn't always so simple for fiction — young adult, for example, isn't a robust category on
Kickstarter — but workbooks, children's books, graphic novels, and
projects with a visual component
do well.
There are authors who are trying to
do some innovative stuff with
Kickstarter and such, but that's just to fund the
project so the author doesn't have to
do it on spec (similar to a book advance.)
That's why I was able to set up a
Kickstarter project, raise over # 5,500, hire an artist, and just get it
done.
The
Kickstarter will not include marketing and promotional materials production or other unnecessary overhead costs - we believe in this
project and we're donating our time and effort - I only need help with what I can't afford to
do on my own.

Kickstarter for a moment, now that you've successfully used it to fund a
project do you see yourselves returning to it for future work?
The only real legal backing that users of
Kickstarters have is, «
Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their
project or refund any backer whose reward they
do not or can not fulfill.»
When this new
Kickstarter project by Fryza crossed my desk, I had to
do a double take.
Because as a reward for backing the
project all tiers included a copy of the game, and as we've covered
Kickstarter does legally require a
project creator to fulfill all rewards, even if the
project itself never comes to fruition.
Not too many of these game
projects involved MMOs, admittedly, although 2017
did see Ashes of Creation become the most - funded MMORPG to date on
Kickstarter.
Do the new guidelines mean that
Kickstarter will only accept Hardware and Product Design
projects with finished products?
A common thread with all of these
Kickstarter projects is it seems that the teams don't seem to prepare for development.
Unsung Story was the creation of Playdek with input from Final Fantasy Tactics creator Yasumi Matsuno, and had a successful
Kickstarter in 2014 - but Playdek it seems never really knew what to
do with the
project, took it in directions different from the
project described in the
Kickstarter, and eventually put it on hiatus in 2016.
Kickstarter is a real blessing for the small developers who'd like to show their
projects to the world but don't have enough money to
do it on their own.
