Dr. Courtney's new form of
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® can be found in her children's book, The Magic Rainbow.
FirstPlay ®
Kinesthetic Storytelling ®, also known as «BACK Stories» (stories that can be told on a child's back) is designed for children ages pre-school to six years.
In this five - day 36 hour certification training you will learn the techniques of FirstPlay ® Infant Massage and
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® so that you can then integrate these methods into your own private practice or agency by teaching parents and caregivers how to perform the touch - based storytelling with their own children.
For example, participants will practice
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® by drawing and telling a story on another participant's back.
(
A Kinesthetic Storytelling book including six stories)
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® is a multi-sensory attachment - focused therapeutic approach that incorporates interactive joyful touch activities integrated with metaphoric and imaginative storytelling.

Bonus day introduction to FirstPlay ®
Kinesthetic Storytelling for older children (2 - 6 yrs... and beyond)
FirstPlay ® Therapy is offered for two different developmental stages: FirstPlay ® Infant Massage storytelling is for ages 4 weeks to two / three years; and FirstPlay ®
Kinesthetic Storytelling is for children ages three to six years.
In this workshop practitioners learn how to facilitate respectful and caring touch in parent - child relationships by demonstrating the touch - based activities via a baby - doll for the FirstPlay ® Infant Massage Storytelling and via a large stuffed animal, for example, in
Kinesthetic Storytelling for older children.
Please visit the FirstPlay
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® website for more information about this training:
Dr. Courtney is a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor through the Association for Play Therapy and has developed a new process of storytelling called
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® which merges imagery relaxation skills with joyful first - play touch activities.
NOTE: In the FirstPlay
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® training («BACK Stories ™» — stories that can be told on a child's back), practitioners demonstrate on a stuffed animal / pillow while parents are guided to practice the stories with their child.
In FirstPlay Therapy, Certified FirstPlay ® Practitioners teach, model, guide and supervise parents and caregivers (on a baby - doll and / or stuffed animal) the implementation of the nurturing techniques of FirstPlay ® Infant Massage Storytelling and / or
Kinesthetic Storytelling ® or «BACK stories» (stories that can be told on a child's back) ~ (Courtney, 2013a; 2013b).
