For those who read enough to desire a dedicated e-
reader device, the leaders in the category — Kindle, Nook, Sony
Reader,
Kobo — are coalescing around a standard set of features: a monochrome E Ink display, a keyboard (physical or virtual), an MP3 player, Web access, note - taking / highlighting / bookmarking functionality, simple games, and
support for common document formats (notably, PDF and Word).
It's
supported by Apple's iBook
readers, the Barnes and Noble Nook, the
Kobo eReader and many others.
Kobo offers first - rate
Reader support from 8 am to midnight (ET) every day.
With iPad and the launch of all the Android tablet /
readers —
Kobo's Vox, Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet, Sony's Tablet S, and yes, Amazon's Kindle Fire (which may one day at least run an app that will read ePUB)-- each of the major eBook retailers has a device that should have no trouble
supporting ePUB3.
While the competition relies on iOS and Android apps to appeal to the widest demographic of
readers, Entitle is now
supporting dedicated e-
readers, such as the
Kobo, Nook and Sony.
As for bookselling, Amazon's original purpose in life, the industry has already seen the loss of the Borders chain, the life
support efforts of Barnes and Noble, the closing of the Sony
Reader store 9US), and a significant drop in promotional efforts in the US from
Kobo.
Most ebook
readers, including the Kindle Paperwhite, Nook Touch and
Kobo eReaders, don't
support reading RSS feeds natively, and using their web browsers for such is too troublesome.
The Sony PRS - T2 offers some features that the
Kobo ebook
readers do not, such as adding handwritten notes and markup, being able to download free ebooks from the library directly, physical buttons, and PDF
support is much better.
Sony recently updated its
Reader App for Android to
support ePub3, and
Kobo and Barnes and Noble have also introduced functionality.
In the past, Sony
readers (the PRS - 350 at least) would reflow text in PDF documents that had embedded text (instead of scanned images of text like your dungeon master guide) which is something I miss with the
Kobo Glo — can you say if the T3
supports this?
If you want a frontlight - equipped ebook
reader that
supports ePub format and content from multiple ebookstores you should look into the
Kobo Glo, GlowLight Nook Touch, or Onyx Firefly.
While
Kobo eBooks are released in ePub format which can be read using a wide variety of eBook
readers there are specific features that require a
Kobo eReader to
support.
Our titles work flawlessly on all major eReaders, with the exception of Amazon's Kindle (
support for the Kindle is coming soon), including; iPad, Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, Nokia Lumia, along with most digital e-ink
readers such as the Nook,
Kobo and Sony devices.
Although most eBook
readers support it at this point — the major exception being the
Kobo reader — it is sadly not safe to use.

Most of the cloud - based e-reading platforms, including Kindle Cloud

Most popular
readers such as the
Kobo Touch, Nook, Aluratek, and Sony line devices all
support it.
Lot's of web site do not
support Kobo Reader's So if you try two download they will not.
Kobo ereader
supports dragging and dropping epub and pdf files directly to the
reader from your computer.
iBooks has good
support, as does Mantano
Reader, but the
Kobo app always starts reading from the beginning of the chapter (no matter where your location is), page turns do not automatically synchronize (same with Marvin), and the two finger swipe down gesture conflicts with
Kobo's brightness adjustment gesture.
Readmill was a Berlin - based startup that had become popular for the clean, streamlined ebook reading service it provided; its
support for Adobe (s ADBE) DRM meant
readers could buy ebooks from platforms like
Kobo and Nook (s BKS) and then read them on Readmill's apps.
All of
Kobo's ereaders
support getting free ebooks from public libraries, but they require using a computer to download and transfer the ebook to the
reader manually.

I don't think B&N is that stupid, but then again they are dumb enough to insist on using their own ePub DRM, thus locking out all the millions of potential customers with Sony
Readers,
Kobo Readers, and all the other ePub -
supporting ereaders from buying ebooks from them.
When
Kobo's parent company, Rakuten, purchased OverDrive last year it seemed like an obvious move for them to add OverDrive
support directly to
Kobo ereaders like Sony used to have on their ebook
readers before they quit making them.
Aside from the large 7.8 - inch 300 ppi E Ink screen, one of the coolest things about the
Kobo Aura One is the fact that it has OverDrive
support built - in so that you can easily download free ebooks from your public library directly onto the
reader itself.
