One drawback to the
Krisflyer program is that there's no way to extend the life of your
Krisflyer miles — they always expire 3 years after accumulating them, regardless of the activity level
in your
account.
Unlike other airline mileage programs,
KrisFlyer miles expire 36 months after they are earned, and activity
in your
account does NOT extend your expiration.
I recently put a flight requiring 80,000
KrisFlyer miles on hold with only about 27,000
miles in my
account!

KrisFlyer account.
