As per every previous LEGO game, there's no «game over» criteria and a death only shaves off a thousand or so studs from your total but this new system certainly gives a heightened feeling of threat to the combat.

These gameplay elements result in the difficulty curve being only as hard as the player would find the puzzles, exploration and combat, therefore it is most likely that players would generally find the game relatively easy to progress through which is rather appropriate given the appeal of LEGO to a wide audience and age range from young children to adults.

The game may have benefited from better combat, but LEGO City is a lively place with lots of humour and things to do, and the game is simple enough to attract a wide audience, but also has enough depth in certain areas to attract a more hardened audience.

The greatness of the combat really shines, especially during the Dojos, but Story missions are over swiftly compared to most LEGO games and the lessened character roster shortens its longevity further.

Whereas combat in previous LEGO games consisted of little more than button mashing, individual characters now have access to «finishers» that can dispatch enemies quickly.

It's also not really the best series for the average LEGO game formula, since Sonic focuses a lot on speed and tight level design whereas the average LEGO game (Dimensions included) have a slower paced setup with puzzle solving, combat and item collecting playing a major part.

Previous games have featured the most simple of combat mechanics, but The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game's combat's depth and diversity makes for a much more satisfying experience.
