Hello Imran, Please note that taking a policy from
LIC does not guarantee claim settlement as you have mentioned.
However, LIC doesn't allow policy holders to add name of spouse to be registered together.
LIC doesn't cover NRI, i have one useless medical policy given by employer.

LIC does not have Fixed deposit but it has single premium plan.
LIC does not offer any variant of the e-Term plan, there are no riders offered and the premium payment mode available is annual.
But LIC doesn't seem to be fair in its bonus payments.

I had a talk with
LIC manager to convert from Fixed to Floating rate, But the lowest possible conversion floating rate offered to old customer is only 10.90 %, Which i don't think make any sense considering the market volatility in 5 years from now.
I am planning to buy ONLINE pure / basic term insurance (term duration — 35 years) for both of us, before buying i have
done some ground work and shortlisted below 2 plans as the premium of these are very less compared to
LIC, SBI and ICICI.
But I am confused between 25k in
LIC and 25k in ELSS / ULIP split as I
do not have any idea on the second option.
Making a buy decision... If I'm happy with the price and satisfied with the research
done then adding the
LIC to the portfolio is a real option.
After spending too much time
doing analysis and research (I have a PhD to
do) I decided to invest in Cadence Capital, a Listed Investment Company run by Karl Siegling whose investment philosophy I thought a good one (to buy undervalued and well run companies, only when prices were already on the rise or short overpriced equities, only when prices were declining)-- I still think this is an excellent
LIC, and it has returned over 18 % p.a. since inception over 10 years ago.
LIC's with a similar investment strategy can provide a good opportunity for the strategic investor or the investor who doesn't want to
do too much work but would like a little active stock picking in their portfolio.
The best thing to
do is check the «Investment Philosophy» section of the
LIC's parent website which usually tells you how management identify possibilities and make investment decisions.
So I don't mind picking up shares in Trusts or
LIC's that are appealing and underpriced — especially when the management fees are reasonable.
As I posted previously, buying an
LIC is best
done at a share price in or around the NTA — the «value» of the underlying holdings.
When management of an
LIC wants to raise fresh capital for to make new investments, they usually
do so via a share purchase plan / capital raising (e.g. issuing new shares to investors).
Another key benefit of
LICs is that a sale or purchase of shares doesn't change the amount of funds available to the investment managers.
