The presentations were given by Purdue faculty and staff as well as industry experts and Dr. Gillian Haanen, a veterinarian from the Netherlands who is completing a
large animal medicine residency at Purdue and has a particular interest in neonatology, gastrointestinal,
cardiology, respiratory, and infectious diseases.
The Veterinary Technician Symposium gives attendees opportunities to learn practical information that can be applied in clinical practice with a variety of lecture topics centered on clinical practice, small
animal medicine,
large animal medicine,
cardiology, and behavior; attend a special «lunch and lecture;» network with colleagues from veterinary facilities throughout Indiana and surrounding states; and meet PVM faculty and staff.
Graduate training in translational research may be pursued in a number of fields related to clinical and basic sciences, including anesthesiology and pain management, behavior,
cardiology, clinical epidemiology and population medicine, dentistry, diagnostic imaging (radiology),
large animal internal medicine,
large animal surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, production medicine (ruminant and swine), radiation oncology, small
animal internal medicine, small
animal surgery, and theriogenology.
The clinical
cardiology program at the Cornell University Hospital for
Animals provides the most current diagnostic and treatment modalities for both small and
large animal patients utilizing diagnostic technology such as echocardiography, electrocardiography, holter monitoring, angiocardiography, and radiography.
Currently, 15 national - level veterinary technician specialties are available for credentialed veterinary technicians to pursue while working on the job: Anesthesia & Analgesia, Behavior, Clinical Pathology, Clinical Practice (with subspecialties in Canine / Feline, Feline, Exotic Companion
