Just like any religion there are different types of atheists, some simply don't believe in a «creator» or higher authority, but others use atheism as a shield of intellectuality, safely keeping them from feeling anything.

It is very simple — you apply the same logic to every other god like Allah etc but refuse to apply the same logic to yours... which in turn makes you an atheist towards Allah... but since you make a exception for Jesus (I should also tell you to read some of Prof Bart Erhman — leading biblical scholar) this already makes your stance contradictory.

It's a way to justify what you don't yet understand, rather than acknowledging that it's just understandable at the moment, and it's acceptance amongst those who think like they do, it's the creation of a definable «evil» to fight against (satan, atheists, other religions, basically everyone except their small group of like minders... even other denominations that are nearly identical quibble).
I work hard, I pay my taxes, I donate to charities, I help people, I take showers, mow my yard and so on just like all the other productive people of society that are both atheist and christian.

the other curious thing is when theists go after the atheists over our knowledge of scripture, most atheists were once theists so we would have some idea of scripture like you all however with the onslaught of attacks from religious folks in the real world when they discover we're not «one of them» has the same effect as the villian in the comics unwittingly creating the superhero.

I'd like to point out that the writer is not unique, and as member of AA for over 20 years, I have known people to get sober in AA from every religion, denomination as well as other atheists, agnostics or non-believers.
I have attneded Evangelical churches and other Evangelical meetings like Young Life back in the day, and the people there had absolutely no problem cheerfully consigning people to hell in the absence of any atheists or other critics at all.
