of sales, do a quick search by title to see what
other people with the same title have done with their
LinkedIn profiles.
Localblox, a small data firm based in Bellevue, Wash., reportedly failed to secure a database
of information on 48 million
people that it scraped from Facebook,
LinkedIn and
other online
profiles.
This is a handy way to get all the email addresses and phone numbers
of people you want to get in touch with on
LinkedIn (
other than looking at their
profile of course).
As an interim recruiter, I am often frustrated when I find a
profile that is
of high interest, and can not get to that
person because their settings are too narrow, they don't have a few
LinkedIn groups displayed, they have no Twitter address I can write to, have no blog or
other personal website at which I can contact them, have no email or phone number displayed overtly or on attached documents, etc..
When this feature is enabled, it shows what
other people in similar roles say about themselves in their
LinkedIn profiles, allowing users
of the word processing software to incorporate that content directly into the resume they are creating.
While it has always been possible to view
profiles of individuals in similar roles for inspiration when constructing your resume,

profile content, this new feature allows users to directly copy content from
other peoples»
LinkedIn profiles — including yours!
Think
of why their
profile was most appealing and why you chose to message them instead
of the millions
of other people on
LinkedIn.
Although there is an area on
LinkedIn to tell
people how and why to get in touch («Advice for Contacting [Your Name]» is what to look for), it's a part
of the «Additional Info» section and this section is usually near the bottom
of what may be a very long
LinkedIn profile (and should certainly not be one
of your first sections due to it's lack
of importance when compared with
other sections).

of the beautiful parts
of LinkedIn is you can see who has viewed your
profile.
There are three things I recommend for anyone who is within six months
of searching for a new job: at least one polished resume that's been edited and viewed by more than one
other person who is not related to you; a flexible cover letter that can be easily modified to apply for a number
of different jobs at multiple companies; and a polished
LinkedIn profile.
If you can't get the
other person to join
LinkedIn, your only
other option is to include their recommendation in your Summary or within the Experience description
of your
LinkedIn profile.
For example, though many resumes are written in the implied first
person style, a more narrative, first -
person approach may be a best practice option for your
LinkedIn profile, and can ensure you stand apart from
other, more starchy
profiles — selling your value to solve the pain
of your target audience.
You're writing in the first
person point
of view and can use the word «I.» It's understood that the
LinkedIn profile is more
of a personal piece to your professional highlights and experiences because it'll also show who you're connected to and recommendations and endorsements you've received from
others.
And, there are two
other selfish benefits to writing
LinkedIn recommendations: Each one that's approved and posted includes a link to your
profile, which you can bet plenty
of people are following to view and assess you.
