ACER and partners have assembled a cast of expert players to meet the exciting challenges posed by the School Readiness Initiative:
Little J & Big Cuz
Little J & Big Cuz (Series 1) has been well received after its screening on both the ABC and NITV earlier this year, and we are pleased to announce that the series has recently won the Best Children's Television Series category at the 2017 SAE ATOM Awards (AUS).
Children viewing the show will follow lead character,
Little J, on his adventures as he comes to understand and enjoy the sometimes unfamiliar environment that can be school, and the greater world around him.
Stay tuned: Teacher will continue to explore the themes and resources linked to
Little J & Big Cuz in forthcoming articles.
As the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures is a key feature of both the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum, ACER convened a team of Indigenous educators to develop a suite of
Little J & Big Cuz resources that model a way for early years educators and primary teachers to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the classroom as part of daily conversations.
In this regular blog, Miss Chen will be sharing some of the F - 2 resources she's been using in her classroom, which are all available to download for free via
the Little J & Big Cuz website.
«Sitting down with our children to watch programs that demonstrate and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being, such as
Little J & Big Cuz, is one small «next step» that each of us can take on the journey towards reconciliation.»
Little J & Big Cuz is unique, not only because it is the first animated children's series to feature Indigenous Australians, but also because it uses television to combine strong educational content with a positive image of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and culture through the prism of the learning environment.
With the strong support and involvement of the Indigenous community, ACER and SNAICC — National Voice for our Children have worked with partners to develop
Little J & Big Cuz, a 13 - episode animated series that is currently being broadcast on NITV.
Featuring the voices of Miranda Tapsell (
Little J), Deborah Mailman (Big Cuz) and Aaron Fa'aoso (Old Dog), each episode in the series is a narrative adventure designed to build positive connections between children's home environments, school and country.
We love
Little J & Big Cuz!

My blog is named «

So I'm living vicariously through
Little J Style in this perfect fall outfit!
When I was pregnant with
Little J, I thought maternity clothes were super hard to shop for.
Plus I sort of had to since I was pregnant with
Little J in the winter and there is no way I am wearing long sleeves in Iowa in the summer!
It was fun to see how much different I looked, and then to compare the before picture with a picture from right before
Little J was born and then after I had lost the weight.

Little J has actually been using the toothpaste for months.
When
Little J's mom got home that night, I told her that I had never seen a baby transition to sleep so independently and so easily.
I was nervous about
Little J's bedtime routine, particularly since it was his first time with a baby - sitter besides his grandmother.
His mom left me written directions for
Little J's bedtime routine: a cup of milk, brush teeth, diaper change and pajamas, a few books, then lay him in his crib.
Little J seemed so confident and at ease in his bed.

Little J would love these cute craft stick ornament Santa hats that are over on Buggy and Buddy.
I pretty much would not ever try and nurse
Little J without a burp rag, so these definitely got used while we were at the hospital.
I can fit my things like my changing pad, diapers, and wipes, snacks for
Little J, extra outfits for Little A, and my nursing cover, without having my bag feel like it is overcrowded.
One of the very first things we bought after
Little J was born was a portable carpet cleaner, and we have used it so much!
I actually ended up tucking them into my nursing bra so that whatever
Little J leaked out of his mouth just got on the burp rag and not all over my nursing bra.
We didn't use this at all because the hospital had little blankets to swaddle
Little J in.
Too bad for us,
Little J didn't was too small for his going home outfit.
The hospital gave us hats, but I used one hat we brought for
Little J's going home outfit.
I spent a lot of time with
Little J before Little A was born.
The outfit we brought for
Little J to go home in was actually too big, so we ended up using one of his pajamas as his going home outfit.
