It seems like I can swing from more traditional with a pinch of modern to a more sophisticated cottage to slightly bohemian to old world to classy beachy to homey with little bit of glamour thrown in for good measure.

Give me lots of windows and at least three exposures (includingg east and south) and then «comfortable, welcoming, casual» (as Sallie says), a little country cottage, weathered, slightly rustic, rooms built around a favorite piece of art or chair or other, nothing matchy - match (only matching pieces I have are the two old but excessively comfortable «curl up and snuggle» club chairs from my late husband) and maybe something whimsical or unexpected.

I hope this little story of a resurrection inspires you (like my Dad inspired me) to think twice before you lose faith in that old car, that weathered piece of furniture, that old tractor, or even an old, abandoned cottage.

Since it is an older cottage it was a little hard to figure out what light switches went to what.

And, inexplicably, we found a mess of a little cottage instead, complete with lots of wallpaper to remove, a horrifically tiny old kitchen, and more problems than I could shake a stick at.
