One
of the creative process philosophers, Charles Hartshorne, states in the beginning
of Man's Vision
of God his conviction that «a magnificent intellectual content — far surpassing that
of such systems as Thomism, Spinozism, German idealism, positivism (old or new) is implicit in the religious faith most briefly expressed in the three words, God is
love».1 If this be true what is
needed is not the discarding
of metaphysics but the exploration
of this new possibility in the doctrine
of God's being.

It is perhaps enough to say here that as
man's lovelessness with its dullness and indifference to human
need is our basic curse, so is God's
love the foundation
of the duty and the demand to
love one another.

This is going to be a shock — the
men who actually wrote all the parts in the Bible and made changes to the infrastructure
of Christianity — including Constantine circa 300 AD in Rome — were not afraid
of unleashing the occasional metaphor... in other words the Bible is not entirely literal — no, you are supposed to use your imagination... In many cases the disciples didn't actually witness an event — it was long distance and time altered hearsay — God figured
Man could handle that... So don't be afraid to dilute - God's cool with that — as long as you do the right thing in life — feed the poor, help your neighbor, don't kill or covet - just be a good and decent person - smile,
love and give generously... God doesn't
need robots — He wants thoughtful individuals who help!!!
It can be said that Mr. Rogers was an honorable, respectable
man whom we should all admire for his truly caring passion for humanity and his unconditional
love for children without a
need to press his religious background as to remind us that only the religious are capable
of good deeds.
Touch is not in and
of itself evil, for as we know, babies
need touch to grow and many
men and women receive
love and affirmation through physical touch, however, if not stewarded well, touch can send unintentional and undesired messages to the opposite sex.
Public discourse was never enough; private admonition, catechetical instruction, personal pastoral care, the administration
of the sacrament the leadership
of public worship — all these
needed to be faithfully attended to; but in everything he did the preacher had one thing to do, namely, to bring home to
men the gospel
of divine
love.
The care
of souls was a matter
of personal admonition and consolation addressed to
men who
needed to apprehend in penitence and confidence the forgiveness
of sin, the great
love of God extended toward them, so that in life and death, in sin and sorrow, they knew they were in the hands
of a holy,
loving God.
you really have to dig thru some sh-t to get to the gems, modern christians who claim the founding fathers on their side should keep this in mind, these
men where largely liberal intellectuals with a practical bent and where not the judeo / christian zealots that some try and make them out to be, jeffersons take on jesus is wonderful and it is useful in the modern world where we really
need to focus more on the lessons
of jesus than THE RULES in the entire bible, as jesus said ABOVE ALL ELSE

As the little child must be put to sleep by a lullaby, so these
men need the tranquilizing hum
of society before they are able to eat, drink, sleep, pray, fall in
love, etc..
For him,
love demanded an unselfseeking openness to the
need of the neighbor, and this neighbor was any
man who was in
need.
The purely twaddling inhuman and too - human
men are to such a degree without feeling for the
need of solitude that like a certain species
of social birds (the so - called
love birds) they promptly die if for an instant they have to be alone.
Tommy God has already forgiven you for your sin the moment you asked Jesus into your life and confessed him as Lord. From that point he paid for your sin in full past present future. It is not sin that stops us from being with the Lord so you are saved. The problem you are experiencing is the battle for your life in the here and now satan is out to destroy you and he knows our weaknesses. If you are honest there were already issues in your life that you struggled with and never got the victory over.So where do you go from here as i found myself in the same situation i was a christian but walking according to the flesh.God does nt change his mind he always
loves us but because
of our choices we distance ourselves from God.The issue is that we like sin thats our wicked hearts and to be fair we cant change our nature only Christ can do that our old nature must be crucified with Christ. The stumbling block is our pride we have to admit that we cant do it For me that was terribly difficult i was so independent thinking i could do anything but the truth was a made a real mess
of things.I sense you are at a crossroads and are feeling desperate and confused. So as a brother in the Lord you
need to confess your sin to God and tell him that you are weak -LCB- we all are -RCB- and that you cant do it in your strength -LCB- None
of us can -RCB- but ask him to send the holy spirit to help you deal with the temptations and the sin that you struggle with and he will help you to change your life he will empower you as he did me.Rather than look at who you are look to Christ and walk in him and he will make you a new
man and sin will not have dominion over you.Jesus came to set us free from bondage.Having once been a slave to sin i know what it is like to have been set free by the power
of God and that is what Christ is offering you today. All it takes is a desire to change or repent and admit we cant do it and trust him to give you the strength to walk in him regards brentnz
In his sermon «St Paul's Gift
of Sympathy», 13 Newman describes the Apostle's
love for Christians and stresses that Paul is so full
of love for others that «in the tenor
of his daily thoughts, he almost loses sight
of his gifts and privileges, his station and dignity, except he is called by duty to remember them, and he is to himself merely a frail
man speaking to frail
men, and he is tender towards the weak from a sense
of his own weakness».14 Paul knows that not only do others
need God's mercy, but above all others he himself has
need of it.
According to the same principle
of control and direction
Man must look above himself for the answer to his own
need for wisdom and
love.
It is I who
need reminding that «if I speak in the tongues
of men or
of angels, but do not have
love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
Furthermore the
loving offerings and sufferings
of holy
men and women across the ages can, through the Church, bear fruit in particular ways and can be applied for particular
needs that may not have been explicitly known about by those who actually made those Christocentric sacrifices.
We do nt
need fake
love or a fake hope in these perilous times - we
need real
love of Jesus from broken & contrite
men & women
of God.
This is the
man who taught his disciples to quench the thirst
of strangers as evidence
of their
love for God, now become that thirsty stranger in
need of water.
If the Augustinian lens through which sin is interpreted is that sin is too much
love for self and not enough
love for God or neighbor, then perhaps we
need a more subtle analysis
of the young
men in the X chromosome study If scripture is light — that we
love because God first
loved us (1 John 4:19)-- then all
of us, these young
men included,
need first to experience
love before the capacity to
love either self or neighbor can develop.
And that place will be just in the case where
love is most
needed, that is, where
man must transcend his emotional attachments and instinctive responses to rise to a new level
of service to the universal good.
The whole neo-orthodox case against the liberal doctrine that the orders
of this world can be transformed into the Kingdom
of love rests ultimately on two propositions about the actual situation
of man in nature and in society, which we
need carefully to examine.
