I have to go
back to Home Depot to get another chunk of
mdf for the top piece of molding in the corner by the door.
You'll notice we finally put the bathroom door trim
back on, and we managed to attach some more of our 1 ″ x 4 ″
MDF boards as crown molding and base boards too.
You may remember this inspiration drawing I posted a while
back... Well, Kev started by attaching a bunch of ten - foot long 1 ″ x6 ″
MDF planks (from True Value) to the wall near our bedroom door... -LSB-...]
The outsides of the boxes are trimmed with 1/4 ″
MDF to create the paneling on the sides and
backs.
To create the paneled look for the
back, we used these
MDF panels and just lined them up one on top of another.
We grabbed our True Value gift card and headed
back to the Tallassee (Alabama) True Value to buy a few more pre-primed
MDF 1 × 6's, and here's what we decided to do last Friday afternoon...
The
back and front were cut from
mdf and attached to those side and middle pieces.
4 Position a 1/2 inch thick piece of
MDF board on the top of the armoire so that the
back is flush with the
back of the armoire but the board extends past the cabinet front and sides by about 1/8 inch.
I read
back through all your posts with regards to the board and batten, but could not find the length or dimensions of the strips of
mdf.
I pieced together several 1 × 6 boards and in order to get a nice finished look on the
back it needed the plywood (we were working with
MDF) plus it made for a secure way to piece it all together.
After cutting a piece of 1/4 ″ thick
MDF to size (ours turned out to be 50 1/2 ″ x 47 3/4 ″), we simply nailed it to the
back of our fireplace, into the 1 × 2's on the inside of the sides.
I painted the
back MDF that it was mounted to in Benjamin Moore's at Sea, and added a slight dry brush with chantilly lace and more slightly rubbed stain on top of that for an older feel.
Recently out of sheer frustration, I got this sudden urge to clean (a rare thing, trust me) and while I was unearthing items to donate or chuck, I found some
MDF coasters from waaay
back when (so far
back I don't even remember where I got them from!).
