Last week I shared with you all that we had removed the old tile around the sink and toilet, patched and primed the walls and ceiling and my husband had put up the pine wainscoting and
mdf trim.
Add basic
mdf trim painted white around the three mirrored doors on the medicine cabinet, add knobs and maybe some corbels underneath to give it a shaker - style, cottage makeover.
In my last post I talked about how much I hate the routed
MDF trim we put in our main living areas.
I purchased the most inexpensive flat pack wardrobe I could find, then customized the doors using
MDF trim, and upgraded the side with pine planks.
This update only cost $ 24 in
MDF trim and I installed in just a couple hours.
Not exact matches
I have cut the
MDF board to size and ordered the
trim for the frame.
Painted
trim is always cheaper than stained
trim, as stains require the use of premium hardwoods, rather than cheaper
trim products, like
MDF or pine mouldings.
You'll notice we finally put the bathroom door
trim back on, and we managed to attach some more of our 1 ″ x 4 ″
MDF boards as crown molding and base boards too.
we used 3.5 ″ x. 5 ″ pre-primed
MDF casing strips (
trim section of local hardware / lumbar store) for the verticals and the horizontal was 5.5 ″ x. 75 ″ pre-primed molding.
The outsides of the boxes are
trimmed with 1/4 ″
MDF to create the paneling on the sides and backs.
Working from no plan, and just building as he went, Tim used
MDF and various
trims and molding to create the fireplace, which is now the focal point of our living room.
We actually made the
trim ourselves, it's a 1X6
MDF board that we routered to give it a design.
Just got ta swap out those curtains, attach a small piece of
trim in the corner where the «Moonlight White» painted
MDF planks meet the «Blue Hubbard» painted wall, add knobs to my beside chest, and hang three more closet doors.
My husband and I refaced our own flat panel doors with
MDF beadboard and poplar wood
trim for a shaker look.
He use more
MDF and more routed - edge
trim to create the tops and we got the old corbels a couple of years ago at Junk Bonanza in Shakopee, Minnesota.
I myself did a complete faux kitchen, complete with faux shaker style cabinets (I added flat
trim to frame out the existing basic
MDF cabinets), faux granite painted countertops (not from a kit either!)
I am wondering though... I saw that you didn't have good results with the
mdf you used as
trim but you recently used
mdf for your floating shelves in the kitchen.
In order to keep our existing
trim work and keep our house consistent, we (he) had to add detail where the existing
trim on the stairs and base boards would meet the new
MDF battens.
He not only designed the wall layout, he had bought all of the supplies, removed all 0f the old
trim, cut all of the
MDF boards and started the process of hanging it all!
The beachy wall treatment continues down the main hall with
MDF boards spaced a few inches apart and then the whole wall is painted in a semi-gloss that matches the
trim.
We used 2 ″ and 5 ″
MDF flat board for our
trim.
The surround is made from standard 3/4 ″
MDF with some pine
trim.
I built a wood frame using scrap
MDF and use some
trim for the inside and outside edge.
Painted
MDF can be more affordable than wood for baseboards, crown molding and wall
trim.
All you need is some
MDF, laminate in a bright color, metal
trim for the edges and some thin, metal legs.
