MEAL FREQUENCY Common phrases we hear: «It's best to eat 5 — 7 times a day.»
Not exact matches
The most
common recommendation is to eat 6 small
meals per day, but this recommendation has little if any foundation in controlled weight loss experiments and despite what some diet gurus may say, increased eating
frequency absolutely does not rev your metabolism (zilch).
A
common belief therefore is that increased
meal frequency leads to increased TEF and increased overall energy expenditure with multiple
meals, and that intermittent fasting accordingly would decrease metabolic rate and lead to increased fat accumulation and possibly obesity.
By now, it should be
common knowledge that
meal frequency has no effect on your metabolism.
Other
common meal frequencies (i.e., 4 or 5
meals per day) have eluded scientific investigation until very recently.
