While many Christians in the past have acted directly contrary to those very clear biblical teachings (i.e., the Crusades, etc.), others have actually appealed to those very teachings in fighting the tide of a culture that would demean humanity (i.e.,
MLK, William Wilberforce, the Confessing Church's
stand against the Nazis, etc.).
Would you have defied your own religious community to
stand with
MLK?
I would not argue against the efforts of
MLK, Wilberforce, but too often we see extremist Christians
standing in the way of progress.
So basically, Russ, you dragged
MLK into this because he's a religious figure who
stood up for human rights, and you are trying to use that to defend men who use their religion to try to deny human rights to others.
