Now that mortgage payments can't be paid on Plastiq with AMEX cards I no longer have an easy way to meet minimum spend on AMEX
MR earning cards.
They have clawed back points on
MR earning cards when applying through leaked links.
Although these are not really leaked links, I would suggest to try and meet the minimum spend requirement organically, especially on
MR earning cards.
The offer itself is obviously a great spending bonus, similar to what we recently saw on some other
MR earning cards.
MR earning cards give you an even better deal, since points are worth 1.5 cents each.
It is almost universally worse than all other
MR earning cards Amex has.
Not exact matches
As far as rewards and benefits go, the Blue from American Express ® is a fairly straightforward
card, offering its users a chance to
earn Membership Rewards ® (
MR) points.
If one of those locations happens to be a brand mentioned above, you may present your Plenti
card and
earn Plenti points, alongside
MR points.
With this
card, you
earn 1x
MR points on every $ 1 you spend.
So long as you have a credit
card earning MR points, you can transfer them over to the participating airlines or hotels.
Since both
cards have no annual fee, we recommend getting both if your credit score allows it - use your The Amex EveryDay ® Credit
Card from American Express whenever you can get 2 % savings using it, and the Chase Freedom ® every other time - due to their higher value, you will be better off
earning 1 UR point per $ 1, rather than one
MR point.
Because points are not tied to any specific
card, you can cancel the
card and still keep the
earned points as long as you have other
MR cards.
Membership Rewards (
MR),
earned through certain American Express credit
cards, can also be transferred to TrueBlue points at a 5:4 ratio.
Cards that
earn American Express Membership Rewards (
MR) points have the ability to transfer to hotel partners.
If Michael is spending $ 100k on grocery at 2X on the
card he would be considered a heavy hitter (to me)-- and if he is a HH he'd likely have a 5 % back grocery
card, a few capped grocery
cards, a Blue Business Plus which also would
earn 2x
MR on $ 50k a year with no annual fee.
There's too much value in
earning MR with this
card for me to do that.
This
card is a part of the Membership Rewards (
MR) program, which allows you to
earn and pool points from all other
MR cards to be used for various redemptions.
Miles are easy to
earn (being a
MR transfer parter, a UR transfer partner, as well as having a co-branded
card from Chase).
Membership Rewards
cards all have this Uber partnership, so even if you have a different
MR card you can
earn 2x points!
The scary part was that all
MR points were frozen, nut just those
earned through the Platinum
card.
Amex continuosly has referral programs for co-branded
cards so that members can
earn, usually up to 55,000
MR points per year through this method.
Given the choice I'd prefer to
earn 5 UR points per dollar rather than 3 Membership Rewards Points per dollar but, if you don't have a Chase INK Business
card or you're looking to build up
MR points, this is a very good offer to have.
Here the Amex Platinum
Card would
earn 5 Membership Rewards points (
MR) for every dollar spent and that comes to 13,875 points.
This time, however, the review is being done on all previous
MR point
earning cards» initial spend, and not just the latest
card applied for.
Also, my wife applied for the personal Amex Platinum
card and
earned the 100k
MR points bonus (see this post from MTM on how to avoid Amex clawbacks).
But
earning both UR and
MR points is a strategy of mine, and having both of these rewards
cards makes more sense to me than either / or.
It will give you you an extra bonus of 10,000
MR points on top of whatever you
earn from your
card, if you spend $ 6,000 before November 15th, 2016.
The Amex EveryDay
cards will
earn between 2 and 3 Membership Rewards (
MR) per dollar at grocery stores with further bonuses available.
If you have an American Express Platinum
card you will
earn 5x
MR on airfare, or if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve you will get 3x UR.
But even then quantifying the use of benefits might deem it logical to keep this
card if I can manage to offset the annual fee and
earn MR points on daily spend.
Amex has several
MR points
earning credit
cards including the Platinum
Card and the Business Platinum c
Card and the Business Platinum
cardcard.
The American Express Business Platinum has a 100,000
MR offer that you can get through referral links and what's even better, you can
earn 25,000
MR points for each referral if you have the
card already.
Note: If you have a Blue Cash Everyday
card, this deal does not apply to you because the
card earns cash back, and not
MR points.
In fact, over at the Points Guy, they ran an analysis of the
earning potential of this
card versus the PRG and Platinum and the EDP outperformed them in every scenario in terms of
earning MR!
This
card is honestly one of the last choices I would go with if I wanted to
earn MR while paying a marginal fee.
This can definitely add up to make the ED
card a decent option for
earning MRs, although it doesn't compare to the EDP or the PRG (seen below).
While the Amex PRG and the Everyday Preferred
cards can assist with
earning MR points, the Citi Prestige has
earning capability built in and won't require you to pay an annual fee for an additional Citi
card just to be able to
earn more points.
However, there's another
card from Amex that can
earn you a lot of
MRs but also grant you more in terms of travel benefits and protection.
The
cards we will compare all
earn MRs that can be transferred to Amex's lineup of airline and hotel transfer partners and each
card carries an annual fee.
Whenever you pay cash for travel booked through Amex's portal — making sure you charge the expense to your
MR credit
card — you also
earn two Membership Rewards points per dollar spent.
I've had the Marriott Rewards VISA
card through Chase for years and
earned almost a million
MR points for hotel stays, airplane tickets, etc..
The
card's annual fee is $ 450, which means it entails quite a bit of spending to
earn enough
MR points to break even.
Cardholders can keep their transferrable points alive by keeping at least one
MR -
earning card active, such as the no - fee Amex EveryDay
card or Blue Business Plus
card.
On top of that you can also
earn 5X
MR points if you're targeted on a Amex Platinum
card, since you're booking directly with an airline.
I would use my Amex Blue for Business
card which would
earn 3.3 x
MR points.
The Amex Platinum
card has no category bonuses, you'll just
earn a flat
MR point for every dollar spent.
Update: Although Amex refers to the points you'll
earn as Membership Rewards points, they can only be transferred to partners if you have another
MR -
earning Amex
card.
