say that while Annihilation, drawn from the first novel in Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, formally belongs, much like Garland's Ex
Machina, to the science fiction genre, it unfolds in a realm where conventional science has ceased to operate, and where the characters» journey, although peppered with horror tropes cribbed from Lake Placid, Prophecy and The Thing, is ultimately an internal one.
Her is an original, heartfelt, thoughtful creation, as is Ex
Machina, and while they deal with similar topics or artificial intelligence and relationships, they each have so much to
say on their own.
And, it goes without
saying, the two films nominated for PGA's most likely to miss out on a Best Picture nomination are «Ex
Machina» and «Sicario» although this pundit is personally overjoyed they received some just recognition.

Machina» Just when we thought M. Night Shyamalan ruined the plot twist forever, along comes the directorial debut of screenwriter Alex Garland, which not only pulls the rug out from under us over and over again (without cheating or making us lose interest) but also has interesting things to
