Unfortunately, contemporary culture presents us — all too insistently — with issues which require a determined biblical and theological response: the continuation of the abortion
regime; the intensifying pressure to acknowledge the legitimacy of same - sex «
marriage»; the attacks on the religious liberty of Christians, forcing them to support practices offensive to their faith; and, most recently, «assisted suicide» now masquerading
under the name «the right to die with dignity.»
And anyone who imagines that
under such a
regime of opinion believers in traditional
marriage will be respected in their views and practices should carefully examine the expression of contempt in the judge's eye.
Most orthodox Christians are likely to find it impossible to support a political
regime under which the judiciary» without any legislative license» sanctions abortion, euthanasia, and homosexual
marriage.
Items that are not joint property
under the statutory
regime comprise premarital assets, inheritances and gifts acquired during the
marriage, and chattels acquired by a spouse during the
marriage for normal personal use or for the exercise of a profession.
In the absence of such an agreement, the statutory matrimonial property
regime applies, meaning joint ownership of all assets acquired during the
marriage, regardless of the name
under which they are held, but only if they were acquired by means of a joint contribution by both spouses.
