This boost applies only to the
points you earn by being a
Marriott Rewards member and does not apply to credit card -
point earnings.
You can earn
points with the
Marriott Rewards Credit Card program with each purchase you make using your card, with even higher
earnings for your transactions at any
Marriott brand hotel.
This is a staggeringly poor promotion from Starwood and, annoyingly, the
earnings mirror
Marriott's exactly (250 Starpoints convert to 750
Marriott rewards
points) so there's no way of making one promotion better than the other.
Considering how worthless
Marriott points are compared to SPG, the
points system would either have to A. stay separate or B. SPG
points convert to
Marriott at a minimum of 3:1 (including SPG Amex
earnings).
I did this last year and I earned airline
points when I bought the gift cards and
Marriott points on all my stays, truly maximizing my
earnings!
If you stayed at hotels earning 10X on stays and earned extra
points here and there with special promotions, it's feasible that a 9 stay mattress run could cost you nearly $ 500 or maybe even less after you factor in your
earnings from
Marriott points and credit card spend.
The Starwood business card awards two
points per dollar spent on Starwood and
Marriott hotel purchases (up to five
points per dollar when combined with your
earnings from Starwood's loyalty program), and one
point per dollar on everything else.
In comparison to other cards, the benefits that come with elite status in the
Marriott program are lacking: the program offers a 20 percent increase on base
point earnings, preferential treatment at
Marriott hotels and some minor discounts on hotel purchases.
