Maybe XIII is linear but I think its better.

But with a sequel, we could be seeing something else — with a new plot, the protagonists don't necessarily need to be constantly moving forward, so
maybe we'll be seeing something more in the vein of Final Fantasy X. I actually liked most of the characters in
XIII, so it would be really nice to play a game with them in that I actually enjoyed.

XIII released today in Japan and we can admit to
maybe shedding a tear or two.

maybe it's just because Final Fantasy
XIII features some of the most inspired art direction of this generation.
If you can understand Japanese, though, you should go ahead and buy Final Fantasy
XIII (
maybe even with the FFXIV beta application code, if you can still get a first print copy) especially since the English voice acting isn't quite as good (minor complaint) and they changed the main theme song (bigger complaint) in the English version of the game.
