The Toronto International Film Festival is only a couple months away, and today they've announced their lineups for the Galas and Special Presentations, where the «biggest»
movies are revealed, although we still have the
Midnight Madness lineup and other sections to look forward to as well.
During his introduction at the film's TIFF World Premiere, Roth quoted Drake lyrics, led an impromptu FaceTime birthday singalong and warned the rowdy
Midnight Madness crowd who had already been sold on Roth's «Cannibal Holocaust» comparisons, «whatever
movie you have in your head, pause that
movie for 90 minutes.»
Even the
Midnight Madness screenings have red carpets now, if a
movie as star - studded as Seven Psychopaths is playing.
The film thereafter establishes itself as a fast - paced, downright fun horror -
movie ride that's ideally suited to its
Midnight Madness slot, although it's admittedly difficult not to question the inclusion of an entirely useless subplot detailing the ongoing exploits of Brent's best friend (ie it seems like the two storylines are going to converge at some point, but this never happens).
A couple of its more peripheral niche sections —
Midnight Madness (genre
movies from horror to martial arts, presented with plenty of showmanship) and Wavelengths (experimental film, meticulously presented with care and respect)-- have carved out strong identities and audience followings for themselves.
