model and independent curator based in New York — collaborated with dealer Nick Lawrence to solicit portraits of her by an additional 34 artists, ranging from Robert Frank to DJ Spooky, from New York's David Humphrey to China's Lin Yilin and Korea's Min Hyung (who, in one of the show's most imaginative leaps, depicts Itwatsuki as a male Maasai warrior in Kenya).

As the title suggests, the show is comprised of a series of portraits, by 35 rising contemporary artists, of
Mie Iwatsuki who is regarded as a muse and
model in contemporary art.
The exhibition's centerpiece is an eight - foot tall sculpture based on
Mies van der Rohe's earliest
model of a glassclad skyscraper.
Mies's
model, as depicted in a series of photographs he took in 1922, is a transparent monolith that towers above a swarm of vernacular housing he designed to appear horrifying and decrepit.
Modeled in part on the folding chairs and supine surfaces of Roman and Egyptian royalty, the severe yet opulent perfection of
Mies» 1929 design provides a perfect prop for Burr's fetish - like assemblage.
