Some people who briefly used my Z1 review unit thought the connector looked like a «
missing volume button», which basically says it all.
Not exact matches
Regular readers will be familiar with our VW Jetta gripes, but in case you
missed»em, here they are: The stereo still has a separate power
button (as opposed to this being controlled by simply pressing the
volume knob).
The power
button and
volume rocker sit up top (although not a microSD Card slot, a feature we sorely
missed on the Nexus 7 as well).
The Power
button is still awkwardly placed on the bottom panel, and hardware
volume controls are still
missing, both of which Amazon corrected on the Kindle Fire HD.
The plug has large, unambiguous mute and
volume buttons that you can't
miss in the middle of a heated gaming match, yet it stays entirely out of the way of your grip.
That's not hard to get used to after a time, but you will
miss having hardware
volume buttons at your disposal.
EMUI also now comes with a Fast screenshot setting that lets you double press the
volume down
button to launch the camera and coupled with phase detection autofocus, it should mean you won't
miss many shots.
As the father of two young kids, being able to double - press the
volume down
button to instantly launch the camera and take a photo in under a second is sometimes the difference between catching a moment and
missing it entirely.
Of course, you can't
miss the metal cylinder along the bottom of the device, that serves as a kickstand, with everything, such as the microUSB port,
volume rocker, power
button, and headphone jack, found on or around this barrel.
Positioning of the
buttons is almost perfect, whether held in the right or left hand, though I'd have liked the
volume bar to be a little more tactile - as it is, changing
volume up or down in the dark or while pocketed is a bit of a hit»n'
miss affair.
The result of this is it's easier to change
volume levels when the phone is lying flat, but we do
miss the simplicity of LG's old
button arrangement, where everything was on the back.
Controls are easy to access too as they're located on the top of the speaker so they're impossible to
miss, and here you'll find the Bluetooth
button as well as
buttons for managing
volume and playback to pause or play songs.
