Both of the
Montessori schools would be so - called
local charter schools, which are governed by the
local school board but receive an additional $ 3,000 per student and as much as $ 500,000 in start - up costs.
It's unsurprising coming from the county that houses
schools like Booker T. Washington Academy, a recently named
School of Distinction that prides itself on its homegrown community roots, and Elm City

Montessori dealt with whether the
charter school had properly informed the
local school district with sufficient information about the facility it planned to use.
Elm City
Montessori is a
local charter school which means we have our
charter approved by and receive funding through both the New Haven Board of Education and the Connecticut Department of Education.
It is New Haven's first public
Montessori school, and Connecticut's only
local charter school.
As a
local charter, we have a highly collaborative relationship with the
school district, but at the same time we have autonomy to implement an authentic
Montessori curriculum.
Meanwhile, faced with inadequate state resources, and Mayor Finch's need to come up with $ 3.2 million more just to meet the state's minimum
local expenditure law, it will be interesting to see if Paul Vallas, the Bridgeport Board of Education and Commissioner Stefan Pryor divert dollars to their colleague Nate Snow and his proposal for a new
Montessori charter school.
Or how about the ground swell of parent support for the exclusive little
Montessori school that Nate Snow, CT's TFA director and failed candidate for B'port BoE (republican ticket) wants the district to pay for as a
local charter?
